Goodbye July!
The month of July comes to an end. August is upon us. Be ready for the heat and humidity!
Falmouth Recreation Department
Move over July, hello August. Currently in the middle of the busiest season of the year in the Town of Falmouth, we’ve endured some heavy heat and humidity that could “beat the band.” To offset days of extreme weather, it’s quite fortunate that we are blessed to have some of the most breath taking beaches in Cape Cod, all uniquely designed along our pristine coastline. Staying cool and refreshed is the main goal during these hot and hazy days of the summer, so stay hydrated and be protected from the sun while exposed to these potentially harmful conditions. As we prepare for the Falmouth Road Race and many other outdoor sporting events this month, the Falmouth Recreation Department seeks to bestow as much guidance as possible to our most valued resource in town, our citizens. Steadily walking down the path of education through athletics and extracurricular activities, our treasured youth summer camps and sailing program have once again fulfilled our mission here at the Gus Canty Community Center. We aim to make lasting impacts during these fundamental youth programs and vow to continue to build the confidence and social awareness of our participants through positive reinforcement, respect, and last but not least, having lots of fun.
As I attempt to draw upon my experiences from a former post as a college athletics recruiter, I advise all parents to expose your children to as many environments full of positive minded, kind people as possible, as they will have the greatest impact on them during these early, impressionable years. If you’re still interested in registering your child for a summer clinic in town, please read the following. Some examples of what’s available are the youth Clipper Sports Camps, the Just for Kicks soccer clinics with Coach Greg Gilbert, and the Summer Hoops programs at Falmouth High School. In addition to these youth programs, the town has many family and adult summer events as well. Some of the ongoing summer activities offered are Thursday Night Summer Concerts at the Band Shell, and the Art Market on Thursdays in the new green space on Main Street at the Gus Canty Community Center.

Yes, it’s now summertime but it is also the time to prepare for the autumn season. Although we are trying to live in the moment and truly appreciate the summer before it passes us by, we must notify the community once again that registration for Fall Youth Soccer has begun as of the first week of July. Please don’t wait until the last minute to register your daughter or son, as the Youth Soccer program is the most popular sports program at the Gus Canty Community Center. If you’re interested in volunteering some time to coach youth soccer, please let us know as soon as possible.
The Falmouth Recreation Department “Person of the Week” is awarded to Tim McRae. Tim, also known as “Mr. Mack” from the Teen Xtreme Summer Camp, has been a solid addition to the Falmouth Recreation Department. Always willing to lend a hand, Tim’s friendly nature and kind hearted personality have really made a lasting, positive impact at the Gus Canty Community Center. Thanks Tim.
