Laptop Catches Fire, Burns Mattress In Falmouth Home
The laptop's battery overheated while it was charging on a mattress in a Falmouth home.
FALMOUTH, MA — Fire officials are warned residents to be careful where they leave laptops and phones after a computer caught fire on a mattress in a Falmouth home last week.
Firefighters at the house found a smoking laptop, which the owner brought outside the home. The resident told fire officials the laptop was on a mattress while charging.
Fire officials said the computer sustained significant damage when the battery overheated while charging. The smoking laptop also damaged the mattress.

"We caution all that laptops, cell phones and other portable devices should not be plugged in to charge and left on combustible surfaces," Falmouth fire said in a statement.
