MA Fisherman Dies After He's Struck By Train On Wareham Bridge
The man was knocked off the bridge into the water below. Witnesses jumped into the water to rescue him, but he was later pronounced dead.
WAREHAM, MA — A Massachusetts fisherman is dead in what law enforcement officials are calling a "horrific accident" in Wareham on Thursday.
The Plymouth County District Attorney said that Christopher Cater, 56, of Dorchester, was fishing along the Mass Coastal railroad tracks in Wareham when he was hit by a passing train.
Cater was knocked into the water below as the train crossed over the Narrows Crossing railroad bridge.

According to reports, the train conductor and other witnesses jumped into the water after Cater. Cater was eventually pulled from the water and transported to Tobey Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the DA's Office, all crossing barriers were properly functioning and the conductor sounded the horn "repeatedly" as it approached Cater.

The train was moving at approximately 25 miles per hour at the time it struck Cater, officials said.
The conductor and train engineer remained on the scene after the crash.
