To Massachusetts taxpayers : Massachusetts does not have an ocean wind turbine port. The New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal remains incomplete. No rail link, No cranes, No port operator, hurricane gates with only a 120 foot legal opening and a channel that needs 1 million cubic yards of material dredged outside the gates for 5 miles. The port can only be used at high tide.Wind turbine specialized "jack-up " barges do not fit in New Bedford Harbor
The bond payments are $187,500.00 per month for thirty years at taxpayer expense.
Massachusetts State Senator Mark C. Montigny, D-New Bedford, described the New Bedford ocean wind port facility to The Standard-Times' editorial board — while advocating for the offshore wind industry — as “a terminal that, if it wasn’t in my own district, I would call it nothing but a boondoggle.”
