Moonakis Cafe: Where Everyone Knows Everyone

Yummy food with friends.

On the way through Waquoit the other day I stopped in to the with my husband for a quick lunch. We have been there many times for breakfast, but I don't think we have ever had lunch there — well, we will definitely be going back again soon!

If you have never been to Moonakis, it is like going to a friend's house for a meal. The restaurant consists of a small dining room and counter, which is where we chose to sit.

Everyone seems to know everyone at Moonakis—and if you didn't know them when you walked in, you probably will on the way out.

They have a great selection of breakfast and lunch choices and a huge board of specials. We started with the delicious tomato bisque soup, which is made from scratch and vegetarian; it was just the right consistency, flavor and temperature. My husband had a tuna sandwich and I had a special request for my cheese and tomato sandwich to be toasted, not grilled. They were very accomodating, and it was toasted to perfection on whole wheat bread.

The waitress was great. She thought the cheese and tomato sandwich looked so good that way, she even recommended it to the next customer who came in! The tuna sandwich had just the right amount of everything and my often-hard-to-please husband was, in fact, pleased.

If you are lucky enough to stop by for lunch or breakfast, be sure to try their homemade granola, which they even have packaged to take home.

From their delicious breakfast specials to their mouth-watering desserts—including brownies and lemon cake—Moonakis is worth the trip from anywhere!
