Mary Sholkovitz has been teaching flute lessons in her Falmouth home studio since her move to the Cape in 1982. While a student at University of Michigan (B.A. in Sociology and Master’s in Social Work) she studied flute and found performing opportunities. She launched her flute teaching career when she moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1972. Her mentor was David Nicholson, a founding member and principal flute of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. In Scotland, England and Boston she attended master classes with many famous flutists. She performed for James Galway on two occasions. She’s been a Certified Suzuki Flute Teacher since 1999. For 16 years she taught Early Childhood Music Classes. She has played flute for choral groups throughout the Cape, been a flutist or cellist with ensembles and finds great joy in performing for church services and weddings. She lives in Falmouth with her husband Edward, a Scientist Emeritus at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
