Opioid abuse in Falmouth: fewer deaths have been reported thanks to Narcan and police are developing an undercover fleet for drug busts.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth police reported fewer opioid overdose deaths so far in 2016 compared to last year.
Police Chief Edward Dunne credited the decline for the availability of the overdose antidote Narcan.
"First responders are seeing an increase in the number of patients who have Narcan administered by friends or family prior to the arrival of emergency services," Dunne said, according to the Opioid Coalition of Falmouth.

That said, overdoses remain a problem—Dunne said several overdose deaths have occurred at local sober houses.
Falmouth police have teamed up with Mashpee police and the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office targeting illegal opioid distribution. They are creating an undercover fleet for enforcement efforts.
