On July 27, 2016 the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum paid homage to Eugene O’Neill and the summer of 1916 with an opening reception to “The Great Provincetown Summer – 1916” exhibit. The exhibit commemorates the most pivotal time in the town’s history when Provincetown became known as the most influential art colony in the world. Guest enjoyed readings presented by Director and Actor Stuard Derrick from three plays that were performed in Provincetown during that summer: Bound East for Cardiff by O’Neill, Not Smart, a comedy by Daniel Steele and The Game, an allegorical play by Louise Bryant. Sam Tager, curator of The Great Provincetown Summer – 1916, spoke about the exhibit and how it encompasses a snapshot of Provincetown 100 years ago.
Pictured in the photo are actors who read from Not Smart: Jane Macdonald as Fanny Tate, Dian Hamilton as Mrs. Painter and Stuard Derrick as Milo Tate.
