Play Ball!

Spring Baseball is here and the better weather means more programs and events are approaching!

Falmouth Recreation Department

“Play Ball…” The Falmouth Recreation Department is proud to report that Spring Baseball is finally here. The Junior Baseball, Pony, Girl’s Softball, and Wiffle T-Ball leagues are still adding players to their rosters and registration will remain open through the middle of next month. We are still in need of some coaches to help guide our little baseball players into action, so please call the Gus Canty Community Center if interested (508-457-2567). Despite the heavy amounts of precipitation and turbulent weather the past few months, the baseball parks & fields around town have all been cleared and prepped for play. It may take a bit longer for the conditions outside to truly feel like spring, but that won’t stop our aspiring big leaguers from embracing the elements. Let’s be honest, after the winter we have endured, it’s difficult to keep people inside these days. With the crack of the bat, and the cheers from the crowd, the Falmouth Recreation Department has no doubt that our spring baseball leagues will help catalyze more activity around town.

We’d like to report that the doors at the Gus Canty Community Center welcomed many young students this school vacation week during our inaugural Springtime Sports Spectacular. Combining indoor and outdoor activities, our little participants were yearning for some fun during their week off from school and the Falmouth Recreation Department Staff delivered. We featured Capture the Flag, Kickball, Indoor Soccer, and a few versions of the recreation mainstay sport: Dodgeball. Free snacks, water, Gatorade & gold medals were awarded to all those who attended. Keeping in line with promoting more options for the youth in town, we are offering a unique program this spring called the Early Engineers. If your child likes to build things, play with Legos, and is very creative, this is the program for them. Registration can be done at our front desk or you can call during normal work hours. Don’t delay, as there are still a few spots still open.

Don’t forget to register your kids for one of our iconic summer camp programs. We offer the Xtreme Teen Camp for grades 7-8, and the Adventure Summer Camp for grades 1-6. A few of the sessions are already full, but there is still availability if your child is interested. We will be taking the kids on many different field trips to varying attractions in the Cape and we’re offering some new fun activities such as Disc Golf. Registration can be done online for both of these camps. In addition to these popular summertime camps, we are offering the Summer Sailing program again this year. Take advantage of living by the sea, and sign up your kids to learn how to sail in Great Pond, Maravista. Three sessions will be offered (mid to late July) and there are still plenty of spots left. If you’re experienced in sailing and would like to help instruct, we are still looking to hire two people as well. Please call the Gus Canty Community Center if you would like to inquire (508-457-2567). Also, be sure to go online and view all of our available upcoming programs and events. Some options we are offering are the Animal Rescue Quest (May 15th-June 5th), Mother & Son Dance (May 1st), Father& Daughter Dance (June 5th), Adult Co-ed Dodgeball (May 7th-June 25th), & Special Event Family & Youth Nights (Fridays).

The Falmouth Recreation Department “Person of the Week” is a special nomination this week. We are awarding the entire Town of Falmouth Department of Public Works for all of their hard work, helping to prepare all of the fields and parks in town for the spring. Without all of their tremendous efforts, many spring sports would not be able to exist. Thanks for all of your help. Our little sluggers appreciate it the most.
