Members of the community are invited to a presentation and discussion led by Falmouth residents Mike and JoAnn Fishbein on the International Rescue Committee and the work it does in disaster relief and refugee assistance at home and abroad. The IRC was initially formed by Albert Einstein in hopes of establishing a vehicle for Jews to escape Nazi occupied Europe. It has since grown into the largest refugee relief program in the world. Mike and JoAnn recently returned from a trip to Burma/Myanmar where they visited with their daughter Emily, who works with the IRC in Burma helping to manage the refugee situation affecting the minority Muslim (Rohingya) community that has been marginalized by the predominant Bhuddist population. Emily began her work with the IRC as an intern in the Washington office while a student at Georgetown University. After college she worked for the agency as a case manager with both refugees and asylum seekers in the U.S., in Salt Lake City, Baltimore and D.C. Learn more about the IRC at http://www.rescue.org/

The Fishbeins will be discussing the role the IRC plays in refugee assistance in general, as well as the work their daughter does through the IRC with the Muslim community in Burma. Please join us in what will surely be an educational and provocative discussion.
