Robert Finch Previews New Book for Woods Hole Woman's Club

Author's talk presents essays and details his career

Award winning nature writer and radio essayist Robert Finch read essays included in his forthcoming book A Cape Cod Notebook Two at the meeting of the Woods Hole Woman’s Club on March 8. The essays dealt with a wide variety of topics including the Cape Cod bear who apparently swam across the canal to visit the Cape a few years ago, the transcendent experience of singing in the Chatham Chorale, and some connections he observed between getting a shellfish license and getting married. He was warmly received by the audience and responded at length to questions focusing on how he became a writer and characteristics of his writing process. He reported that he has maintained personal journals for at least 40 years and entries in these often form the basis of his essays in which his goal is to make “interesting things readable.” Mr. Finch’s essays are always drafted in longhand with a treasured fountain pen and he believes that this process allows the writer to digress in productive ways.

The program at the group’s next meeting will be a presentation by Roger Landry on “Masterpiece Living” at 7 pm on Tuesday, April 12 at Fisher House, Church of the Messiah, Woods Hole.
