Smoking Causes Fire That Kills Falmouth Woman: Report

A house fire on Crystal Spring Lane, that resulted in the death of a Falmouth woman, was caused by a lit cigarette, officials said.

FALMOUTH, MA — A house fire last month that killed a woman was caused by a cigarette, according to the State Fire Marshal 's office.

State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey told the Falmouth Enterprise the April 22 fire at a house on Crystal Spring Lane a lit cigarette cause the death of Beverly Marshall, 82. She was airlifted to a Boston Hospital but succumbed to her injuries three days later. Two other residents and a Falmouth firefighter were also injured during the blaze.
