Spring Baseball!

Mini Programs are coming to an end, Spring Baseball is starting, and our sights are on the summer of 2015!

Falmouth Recreation Department

Well, we made it through the winter. Phew. Spring is officially underway, as the Falmouth Recreation Department prepares for the annual Youth Baseball Program. The little sluggers are set to “play ball” on Saturday, April 25th. We are offering a coed Wiffle T-Ball League (ages 4 & 5), coed Junior Baseball (ages 6 & 7), coed Pony League Baseball (age 8), and the Girl’s Softball League (grades 2 – 8). All games are played on Saturdays, except for coed Wiffle T-Ball, which will be played on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Please help us have another successful season, as we are always in need of volunteer coaches. Please notify us at our front desk in person or by phone as soon as possible if you’re interested. Thank you.

We’d like to thank all of the parents for signing up their children for the 2015 Multi Sports Program last month. The Recreation Department Staff was very pleased with the turnout, and can honestly say that we probably had as much fun as the kids, especially playing dodge ball. The After School Program with Morse Pond Elementary School finished up last week as well. This was another popular youth program, showcasing the benefits of peer mentoring within the community. Thank you to all of our volunteer mentors from Falmouth High School. The Jack’s Pact kids and the Recreation Department Staff appreciate all of your time and the positive impact you make in our community. The last of the mini spring programs, Winter Indoor Baseball, has been making great strides and is still thriving. Our little baseball prospects are making huge improvements with their catching, throwing, and hitting skills. Both the Recreation Department staff and the parents can all agree that the training is resonating with these little ball players and most importantly, they are all learning the benefits of teamwork and having fun in the process.

Be sure to check out all of the upcoming programs & events that we offer at the Gus Canty Community Center. For seniors, we are offering the Walking & Talking Program again, which incorporates friendly conversation with easy pace walking at nearby picturesque sites (Tuesday mornings 9am-11am, April 21st-June9th). Also another reminder, we are featuring some special events for families such as the Mother & Son Dance (Friday, May 1, 2015 from 6:30-8:00pm), and the Father & Daughter Dance (Friday, June 5, 2015 @ 6:30-8:00pm). During April Vacation, we are offering a free event called the Springtime Sports Spectacular, which will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd, 1pm-4pm, for ages 6-10. Similar to our event during the last school vacation, this will feature multiple gym games and activities for three hours at the Gus Canty Community Center. Medals will be awarded to all participants.

Don’t forget to plan ahead for the summer by registering for our Teen Xtreme Summer Camp & the Adventure Youth Summer Camp. Some sessions are already full, so don’t delay. We are also revisiting the Summer Sailing Program in the month of July for three sessions if any of your children are interested in learning a new skill, in the local waters of Great Pond, Maravista. We are also looking to hire some sailing instructors as well, so if you are interested or know anyone that is, please call our front desk as soon as possible. As always, please visit our website for all registration questions and information regarding all of our programs and events (508-457-2567; www.falmouthmass.us/rec).

The Falmouth Recreation Department “Person of the Week” is yet again another special nomination. We would like to recognize the dedicated staff of the AARP Tax Prep group that has been helping local senior citizens file their taxes from the Gus Canty Community Center. Thank you for all of your efforts, energy, and patience during a very busy time of the year.
