Spring Sports are Concluding Soon!

Spring Sports are Concluding Soon!

Falmouth Recreation Department

It’s that time of year again. College students are returning home for summer vacation, tourists are pouring in by the dozens and all of the sea side restaurants and shops are reignited with customers once again. This time of year truly marks the essence of Falmouth. With sunshine and sandals on our minds already, we must stay focused a bit longer to ensure a strong finish to the spring sports programs. The Spring Baseball League is currently in the spotlight for the Falmouth Recreation Department, and it’s closing in on the final stretch. With only three weeks left in the season, it’s safe to say that our little sluggers will be peaking in performance very soon. Be sure to cheer on these courageous home run hitters in these last few games, as the impact of positive reinforcement is eternally beneficial. As we always have to remind our players, coaches and ourselves at times, this is recreation sports. Our mission is to teach children a new skill, show them how to achieve a goal through teamwork, and most importantly, to have fun. If there is one thing I’ve learned since working for the Falmouth Recreation Department, it’s that the simple act of a “high five” goes a very, very long way.

Before we apply the sunscreen and embrace the warmer weather, there are some non athletic programs that are concluding before the summer begins as well. The Early Engineers program, which allows students to build various projects with Lego brand products, has soared to new levels, spreading fun and excitement every week. Please visit the Falmouth Recreation Department Facebook page to view all of the final projects that our youthful builders created. Although it’s come to an end, we look forward to revisiting this pivotal youth program in the future. In addition, the Animal Rescue Quest discovered another fascinating animal sanctuary in town, by visiting Smithfield Farm. The group had the pleasure of taking a tour of the farm, learning all of the responsibilities of owning and taking care of a horse, as well as enjoying a fun horseback ride to conclude the trip. With only two more weeks left, the Animal Rescue Quest is gearing up for its penultimate quest to one of our local Herring runs. Aiming to discover new things each week, this program really illustrates how children can participate in activities with the Falmouth Recreation Department that are both educational and fun.

Another noteworthy program offered at the Gus Canty Community Center is the Senior Walking & Talking program. Increasing our walks each week as well as our surroundings, this has been a great opportunity for local senior citizens to socialize and exercise near some beautiful views in town. Although many programs are coming to an end for the season, there are many summer programs offered in town that you can register for at the Gus Canty Community Center. Come down to the Gus to learn more about the Summer Hoops programs at Falmouth High School, Junior Golf lessons at Falmouth Country Club, and many other sports camps provided in town. If you’re still looking to keep your children busy this summer by having lots of fun with other kids, it’s not too late to register for the Teen “Xtreme” Summer Camp. Both the Adventure Summer Camp for grades 1-6 and the Summer Sailing program for ages 8-14 are already full. You must register online for our summer camps, so be sure to visit our website for all pertinent information: www.falmouthmass.us/rec. If you have any questions, please call our front desk at 508-457-2567.

The Falmouth Recreation Department “Person of the Week” is awarded to the friendly staff at Smithfield Farm. They did a wonderful job providing a unique and exciting tour of their coveted farm to our young group of participants from the Animal Rescue Quest. We’ll be sure to visit them again down the road for more horseback rides. Thank you so much.
