Falmouth Recreation Department
The Town of Falmouth has been blessed by warm weather and breath taking sunsets this month. Several groups of tourists and local residents alike have embraced the weather to the fullest, as every corner of our beloved town is teeming with activities and summer time fun. We hope that all running enthusiasts out there enjoyed another successful journey along the Falmouth shores during the SBLI Family Fun Run and the iconic Falmouth Road Race. We are proud to help support such community events like these, which have spurned interest from people all over the globe. Although this is quite a happy time of the year for our staff, the Falmouth Recreation Department is sad to report another conclusion to a very thrilling and productive summer camp season. Although our amazing summer camp program has come to an end, there are still a few more weeks to enjoy those last minute trips to the beach or the islands. School doesn’t commence until after Labor Day for our local students, so we encourage all families to spend as much time together as possible enjoying this denouement or final unraveling of enchanting summer weather. So whether you like to go boating, fishing, golfing, swimming, or riding a bike, please live each day this month to the fullest, as we certainly all know that this exceptional weather doesn’t stay here forever. On that note, have fun, apply sunscreen, and live by the mantra: safety first, safety last, safety always.
If anyone is interested in some of the ongoing summertime activities and events offered in town, we still have Thursday Night Summer Concerts at the Band Shell, and the Art Market on Thursdays in the new green space on Main Street at the Gus Canty Community Center. Also, don’t forget to plan ahead as we have some youth and adult programs scheduled this Fall which are currently open for registration. For grades 2-4, we are offering a Fall Ball baseball program (working on basic skills of baseball) which is the precursor to the Winter Indoor Baseball program we’ve run in years past. We are also offering once again the Senior Walking and Talking program, which runs from September 8th – October 27th and is offered to all active senior citizens interested in gaining some extra exercise and friendly company once a week.

Besides preparing for last minute summer vacations and buying the kids new clothes for school, we must urge all those interested in registering for Fall Youth Soccer to do so as soon as possible. Please don’t wait until the last minute to register your daughter or son, as the youth soccer program is the most popular sports program at the Gus Canty Community Center. If you’re interested in volunteering some time to coach youth soccer this Fall, please call the front desk of the Gus Canty Community Center at 508-457-2567. Thank you, as we truly appreciate all the help.
The Falmouth Recreation Department “Person of the Week” is awarded to “Marcus the Magician.” Marcus has been performing magic shows at our Adventure Summer Camp for many years and his performance this past week was as good as ever. We’d like to recognize him for putting so many smiles on the faces of our inspired little campers. Thanks Marcus.
