Falmouth Recreation Department
We are halfway through the month of July, and the summer season is in full effect. The temporary population surge in town combined with the increasing warmth in weather is a clear indicator that “summer” has truly arrived. The Cape Cod Summer Baseball League is in the second half of their short, but sweet existence, and recently the attendance at the Falmouth Commodores games has skyrocketed. In addition to the influx of sports spectators, the Town of Falmouth is teeming with boating and fishing enthusiasts as well. Offering an extensive variety of areas to enjoy the water, we are certainly lucky that our beloved beach town can accommodate such a large group of adventurous tourists. Amidst all the summer fun, the Falmouth Recreation Department continues on strong with our popular summer camps and sailing program. Aiming to be more than just a spoke on the wheel of the town’s resources, the Recreation Department Staff is fully dedicated to carving out the best summer possible for the children in our community.
If you’re interested in registering your child for a summer clinic in town, please read the following. Some examples of what’s available are the youth Clipper Sports Camps, the Just for Kicks soccer clinics with Coach Greg Gilbert, and the Summer Hoops programs at Falmouth High School. In addition to these youth programs, the town has many family and adult summer events as well. The following activities are offered: the 15th annual SBLI Family Fun Run, the George Keegan Fishing Derby, Thursday Night Summer Concerts at the Band Shell, and the Art Market on Thursdays in the new green space on Main Street at the Gus Canty Community Center. The Town of Falmouth has many special events and activities during the summer as well, especially those geared towards educating the youth. Hoping to help children become aware about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, Gosnold on Cape Cod along with the Falmouth Commodores are presenting “Playing Above The Influence,” with Special Guest speaker Chris Herren (former Boston Celtic). This event will be held on Wednesday, July 29th, 2015 from 4:00pm-5:30pm. Please contact the Falmouth Commodores or Gosnold for more information.

Although we are trying to live in the present and truly appreciate the summer before it passes us by, we must notify the community once again that registration for fall Youth Soccer has begun as of the first week of July. Please don’t wait until the last minute to register your daughter or son, as the Youth Soccer program is the most popular sports program at the Gus Canty Community Center. Enjoy the summer while it’s here, but don’t forget to plan ahead for the aftermath. I dare not utter the words “back to school,” just yet, but please use this article as a reminder that fall sports are next up on the docket.
The Falmouth Recreation Department “Person of the Week” is awarded to Gianni Cavallo. Gianni (pronounced Johnny) is the newest instructor to the summer sailing program and his impact has been outstanding thus far. Always creating something fun and educational, Gianni is taking the summer sailing program to new heights. Thanks for all your time and efforts.
