New Bedford could very well become the new freight terminal for the Cape & Islands taking the place of all the freight from Woods Hole in Falmouth, Massachusetts.

Falmouth residents are tired of truck traffic 24 hours a day 7 days a week traveling down Woods Hole Road.

New Bedford is stuck with an incomplete ocean wind turbine port plagued with all kinds of problems. The port started as a 35 million dollar ocean wind turbine port in 2010 has mushroomed near 200 million.

The completion date of this month has been put off until sometime in 2015 possibly 2016.

The port was scheduled to be complete in a few weeks but has no large cranes, Army Corps of Engineers certification, no rail link and no comment from Seimens wind company the company hired to provide the turbines

Cape Wind has filed a project revision to use New Bedford Harbor for the construction and assembly of 130 wind turbines in Nantucket Sound. On the other hand Cape Wind could be looking at legal action that could be headed all the way to the Supreme Court . The news media has described the legal action as theSword of Damocles.

Questions remain over dredging PCBs,heavy metals and mapping mistakes of Marsh Island and a residential community in Fairhaven called Oxford Village, Fairhaven.

New Bedford Harbor is still facing the removal or burial of almost 1 million cubic yards of toxic materials.

The channel outside the narrow New Bedford hurricane gates with only a 120 wide legal clearance hasn’t been dredged since 1956. The thirty foot draft requirement can only ba attained at high tide.

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center owns the incomplete ocean wind turbine port and ocean wind turbines are looking to be years away.

This past summer residents along Woods Hole Road are asking to start thinking about New Bedford as the new freight port to the Cape & Islands

The State of Massachusetts is holding a dredging meeting on September 8, 2014 in New Bedford. All these questions can be asked at the dredging meeting in New Bedford.

The State Enhanced Remedy (SER) consists of navigational dredging and disposal activities within the New Bedford Harbor Superfund Site.
