In Wellfleet "Noise is a byproduct of life"

Wellfleet Town Meeting rejects proposed noise bylaw - CC Times.

Cape Cod Times 4/28/15

“On the first night of town meeting Monday an overflow crowd came out largely because of a petitioned article that proponents hoped would give them some relief from the sounds of music and partying from a nearby restaurant.
Gail Ferguson compared it to a person plunking down next to you on a beach and destroying the serenity of ocean waves and summer breezes by playing loud, bad music on a boom box.
“We don’t have to listen to someone else’s music,” she said.
The petitioners wanted to extend the town’s anti-noise bylaw to cover daytime hours from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. and include noises from electronic devices as well as musical instruments and other devices, orchestras, musicians, bands, loud outcries and boisterous noise or singing. The change would have reduced the distance that triggered the bylaw from 150 to 100 feet during the day and evening and to just 50 feet after 10 p.m.
But people queued up to oppose what many saw as an infringement on a way of life.
“Nothing smacks of gentrification like the proposed change to our noise bylaw,” Kathleen Bacon said. “Noise is a byproduct of life and Wellfleet is a very lively place for eight weeks out of the year.”
Voters agreed, defeating the article on a nearly unanimous voice vote.”
