Woman Dies In Falmouth House Fire

A 67-year-old Falmouth woman was killed in a house fire on Gifford Street.

FALMOUTH, MA — A Falmouth woman was killed in a house fire, according to fire officials. Officials identified the woman as Mary Jo Nelson, 67, the Cape Cod Times reported.

Around 5:15 p.m., Sunday, fire officials were called to a home on Gifford Street. Crews arrived to heavy smoke and flames and needed to use several hose lines to extinguish it. Firefighters found Nelson inside, but she didn't survive.

"We extend our sincere condolences to the victim’s family and friends," Fire Chief Michael Small said in a statement.

Fire officials said the fire was put out after about 30 minutes.

Falmouth police, fire and State Police are investigating what caused the fire.
