Woods Hole Woman's Club Awards Scholarships

Scholarship Awards

The Woods Hole Woman’s Club awarded scholarships to five Precinct One high school seniors on April 14. Scholarships were awarded to Jesse Borgese, Robert Eder, Caroline Cobb, Daniel Morrison, and Dmitry Shribak.

Borgese, a senior at Falmouth High School, enjoys playing golf and basketball. He will be attending Providence College in the Fall, majoring in business management.

Eder attends Falmouth Academy, playing varsity sports in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. He plays the trumpet in the FA Cool Nights Jazz Band. Eder will be attending Vassar College in the Fall, pursuing course work in pre-med..

Cobb, a Falmouth High School senior competes in cross country, track, and tennis. She also is an Irish dancer at the Proto Casano School of Irish Dance. Cobb will be attending Rice University, majoring in chemical engineering.

Morrison attends Falmouth High School and is active in the band and choir. He is the assistant director for the school a cappella group. While active in the School’s theatre, he is also presently appearing in the Falmouth Theatre Guild production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Morrison plans to attend either the University of Cambridge, England, or the University of Chicago, majoring in math and physics.

Shribak, who holds a black belt in martial arts, is a senior at Falmouth High School. He established a computer club at the School, and serves on the Tech Advisory Board, which allows him to give input on how to improve STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education policies. In the Fall Shribak will be attending the University of Chicago, where he plans to study microbiology and cancer research through the field of nanorobotics.

The Scholarship Committee, headed by Priscilla Ruegg, presented the scholarship winners with a special cake for all to enjoy.

The second portion of the Club’s meeting was a fascinating presentation by art historian Susan Pennington who spoke on the Art of 1914, the year of the WHWC’s founding: “The Year American Art Became Modern.”

Also at this meeting, Club members voted for officers whose tenure will begin following the Annual Banquet in May; Christina Rawley as president, Susan Houghton as vice-president, Winnie Mackey to continue as secretary, and Kitty Brown as treasurer.
