Blown Chances Haunt Slumping Sox

Drew Pomeranz was pedestrian again as Boston left 11 men on base in Anaheim.

Getting guys on base wasn't a problem for the Red Sox Saturday night in Anaheim. Bringing them to the plate was where they ran into trouble.

Boston scored early, but not often, and another rocky start from Drew Pomeranz left the slumping Sox 5-2 losers against Anaheim.

Mookie Betts hit another leadoff homer, and the Red Sox scored again in the first before loading the bases. But Boston couldn't bring anyone else around, a problem that persisted through the evening as the visitors left 11 men on base.

It was Boston's sixth loss in seven games. The Sox are two games behind the newly AL East-leading Toronto; Baltimore is a half-game behind the Jays.

Pomeranz, acquired from the Padres for a top pitching prospect, gave up five runs and didn't make it out of the sixth. He is 0-2 with a 7.54 ERA in three starts since the trade.
