African American spirituals are revered the world over as heartfelt expressions of deepest faith. The New England Spiritual Ensemble and young singers from throughout the Boston area perform these anthems of the American experience by American composer Trevor Weston. Dvořák drew on the sadness and beauty that lie at the heart of the spirituals in the slow movement of his “New World” symphony.
