David Ortiz Wins Hank Aaron Award
The now-retired Red Sox slugger was named the AL's most outstanding hitter.
David Ortiz probably won't win the MVP when it's announced, but the now-retired Red Sox slugger still earned a very prestigious award in his final season.
Oritz won MLB's Hank Aaron Award for the American League on Wednesday. The award is for each league's "most outstanding offensive performer."
Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs won the National League version.

Fans and a panel of Hall of Famer players - including Hank Aaron himself - voted for the award.
"David created an extraordinary legacy with the Red Sox," said Commissioner Rob Manfred. "Fans will never forget his consistent excellence at the plate and his performances on the game’s greatest stages."

Ortiz also won the award in 2005.
This year - the last of his 20-year career - Ortiz led the league with a .620 slugging percentage, 1.021 OPS, and 48 doubles. More traditionally, he hit .315 with 38 home runs and was tied for first in the AL with 127 RBI.
Ortiz set records for a player 40 or over for home runs, RBI, doubles and extra-base hits.
