David Price Headed To DL

There were questions if the controversial left-hander was going to be booed at home tonight. Instead he may be on the shelf for awhile.

FENWAY, MA — A troublesome forearm appears to be sucking a lot of the drama out of the Friday night at Fenway Park. It also could suck a lot of talent out of the Red Sox playoff push.

David Price is reported to be likely scratched from his start against Kansas City tonight due to arm problems similar to the one that kept him out the first two months of the season. The Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy was the first to report the news Friday morning. Reports are now coming out that Price has been placed on the 10-day disabled list.

While losing a top left-handed starting pitcher in the midst of a pennant race hurts, the timing is what's notable. Price has quickly become one of the more reviled Sox players in recent team history, if talk radio and newspaper columns are to be believed. His sour attitude with the media - he publicly ripped one reporter in the clubhouse not too long ago - took an even worse turn during a spat with a team broadcaster.

Price reportedly confronted NESN analyst and Baseball Hall Of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersely on a team charter, lambasting him for being critical of another player's stats in a rehab start. Several Sox players applauded Price, but many fans roasted him for ambushing a popular and respected team icon over something so petty.

Would Red Sox fans have booed Price at the outset of Friday night's start in Boston against Kansas City? Would he have continued his war with the media? Would he have continued his relatively solid performances and pitched the team to an AL East championship and beyond?

It's time to wait and see.
