After witnessing a carriage driver whipping his horse, Friedrich Nietzsche ran to the scene and collapsed; he would spend his final years in almost total silence. But this isn’t a film about Nietzsche; instead, Tarr focuses on the driver and his family. Tarr immerses us into the family’s daily life in the austere, unforgiving Hungarian countryside.
