Freshlyground has performed sold out tours across the globe, achieved gold and platinum album sales, and is considered one of South Africa’s top cultural exports. Freshlyground formed in early 2002 and is made up of seven talented and diverse musicians from South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. Fronted by the diminutive but dynamic Zolani Mahola, the band exudes a live performance energy that has been the bedrock of its success. The experienced rhythm section is complemented by guitar, keyboards, violin, flute, mbira, sax, and harmonica. Although hailing from diverse backgrounds, between them the band’s members weave a musical magic that is highly infectious and undeniably groovy.
The Calderwood Courtyard opens at 6 pm. Courtyard seating is limited; low lawn chairs and/or blankets are recommended. In the event of rain, concerts move indoors to the Remis Auditorium. Alcoholic beverages may be purchased in the Courtyard; state law prohibits the possession or consumption of alcohol purchased outside of the MFA. Please note that large bags, coolers, and tall chairs are not permitted. All bags are subject to inspection by Museum staff.
All tickets are general admission seating. General admission concert tickets can be upgraded for al fresco dining on the Bravo restaurant balcony for an additional $30 per person, $25 of which can then be applied to food/drink from the restaurant. To purchase this upgrade, or for additional information, visit any ticket desk or call 617-369-3395 starting at 2 pm the day of the concert.

In the case of inclement weather, the concert may be moved indoors to Remis Auditorium. A determination is made by 2 pm on the day of the concert and will be posted online and made available to anyone who calls the Museum. Please note that concert tickets may not be refunded or exchanged for any reason, including change of venue due to weather.
