Fight Night: See Red Sox, Yankees Brawl Like Old Times

It's safe to say the rivalry is back on!

BOSTON, MA — The Bruins start the playoffs Thursday night and the Celtics begin their postseason quest this weekend. But on Wednesday night, all eyes were on the streaking Red Sox reigniting their historic feud with the visiting New York Yankees.

An all-out brawl broke out between the two teams during the Yankees' 10-7 win at Fenway Park. The game wasn't as close as the final score indicated, and despite the Sox' 9-game winning streak coming to a halt and pitcher David Price exiting the game after just one inning, this one will be remembered for the fireworks.

It all started in third inning, when the Yankees' Tyler Austin slid into second base with what appeared to be some intent. Boston second baseman Brock Holt gave Austin a piece of his mind, Austin returned the favor, and both benches cleared as the teams got into a shouting match.

Later in the sixth inning with Austin up at the plate and Sox fireballer Joe Kelly on the mound, it got real. Kelly, who throws 100 miles per hour, drilled Austin in what appeared to be the ribs (Austin would later say it was his elbow.) Austin slammed the bat on home plate and took a couple steps toward Kelly, who gestured him to come get some.

"And now fisticuffs!" Sox play-by-play broadcaster Dave O'Brien exclaimed as the benches cleared again, this time with much more physicality.

Kelly, Austin, and Yankees third base coach Phil Nevin were ejected.
