Red Sox to Bring John Farrell Back as Manager

The Red Sox say Farrell will return despite being on the hot seat for much of the last year-plus.

John Farrell will be back next season as Red Sox manager, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said at a season-ending press conference Tuesday afternoon.

The Red Sox this season won the American League East, but a disappointing sweep at the hands of the Cleveland Indians abruptly ended the season.

Farrell guided the team to a World Series championship in 2013, but has endured some of the more disappointing seasons in the current ownership group's tenure since then. 2015's last-place finish was the team's second in a row, the first time the franchise had endured back-to-back last-place finishes since 1929-30.
