
Dave "Boo" Ferriss, an All-Star pitcher and member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame, died Thursday, the club announced. He was 94.
Ferriss played all six years with Boston, starting Game 7 of the 1946 World Series.
The righthander's career got off to a hot start. In his 1945 rookie campaign he finished fourth in MVP voting, going 21-10 with a 2.96 ERA. He made the All-Star team in 1946, going 25-6 with a 3.25 ERA. He capped the season with a six-hit shutout in Game 3 of the 1946 World Series against St. Louis and a Game 7 no-decision in a loss.

An arm injury in 1947 shortened a promising career. Ferriss went on to become a very successful college coach at Delta State University in his home state of Mississippi.
For his career, Ferriss the righthander appeared in 144 games, 103 starts, going 65-30 with a 3.64 ERA.

Ferriss was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2002. He still holds at least a share of several franchise records, including many top rookie pitching marks.
Ferriss is survived by his wife, Miriam; his children, David Jr. and Margaret; his grandchildren, David III and Miriam; and his great grandchildren, Mary, Kathryn, and Jane.
