Red Sox Home Opener: Organization for Sexual Abuse Survivors Demonstrating Against Team

Road to Recovery says the team has refused to settle with more than 20 alleged victims of a former clubhouse manager who abused boys.

BOSTON, MA - An organization that says it helps sexual abuse victims is planning a demonstration outside Fenway Park before the Red Sox home opener Monday afternoon because of what it calls the team's refusal to settle with more than 20 alleged victims of a former clubhouse and equipment manager who sexually abused boys.

Road to Recovery says it will demonstrate from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, just before the Red Sox take on the Baltimore Orioles in their first home game of the season.

Donald Fitzpatrick was a former clubhouse manager who was fired in 1991 and died in 2005. He pleaded guilty in 2002 to four counts of attempted sexual battery against boys younger than 12 between 1975 and 1989.

In 2003, the Red Sox settled a $3.15 million lawsuit for several men who were sexually abused as clubhouse attendants.

The statute of limitations has expired on several other cases.

"The Red Sox have decided to ignore the [financial] demand and therefore continue to re-victimize the more than 20 sexual abuse victims of Donald Fitzpatrick who desire healing," Road to Recovery said in a release.
