Red Sox Report: Boston Wilts in Grapefruit Opener; TV Opener Saturday

The Sox mustered only two hits in their first game against a pro team in 2017.

The Red Sox offense was punchless in their first game of the Grapefruit League schedule, falling, 3-2, to the New York Mets in Friday in Fort Myers, FL.

Boston managed just a double by Hanley Ramirez and a home run by Brian Bogusevic. Starting pitcher Henry Owens was less than stellar in his two innings, though he did fan four.

What does it mean for the Red Sox? Nothing, of course. If everyone leaves Fort Myers healthy at the end of March, it will have been a good Spring Training for the club.

You can catch your first look at the team Saturday at 1:05 p.m. NESN and WEEI will carry the game against the Minnesota Twins. Lefthander Roenis Elisa will get the ball for Boston opposite Phil Hughes.
