Red Sox Stars Teach Baseball Drills and Importance of Healthy Eating to Youth at Red Sox Foundation Health and Wellness Workshop

The Red Sox Foundation hosted a Health and Wellness Workshop on Saturday, May 17 with nearly 70 youth from the Red Sox Foundation RBI program, the Special Olympics and Meeting Street. Red Sox players Jackie Bradley Jr., Chris Capuano and Jonathan Herrera as well as Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s dietitian, Aramark chefs, and Red Sox trainers were on-hand to help teach the youth baseball skills including stretches and exercise tips.

The 70 youth learned the benefits of exercise and healthy eating choices, with interactive food stations including fruit smoothies, ants on a log, chicken tacos and more. The kids finished the day with an on-field exercise program similar to those performed by the Red Sox before each game, taught by Red Sox Strength and Conditioning Coach Pat Santora and joined by Bradley Jr., Capuano and Herrera. The workshop also featured a Q&A with the star players, prizes and giveaways.

The event was sponsored by Covidien and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
