Remembering Robin Williams' Connection to Boston

Williams, who died this week, received an Oscar for his work in the Boston-based film "Good Will Hunting."

It was a somber start to the week for fans of Robin Williams.

The famed 63-year-old actor and comedian was found dead in his home on Monday morning, having apparently committed suicide.

Williams’ connection to Boston was solidified through his role in the 1997 Oscar-winning film “Good Will Hunting,” which was set and filmed throughout Boston. Williams himself starred as Sean Maguire, a professor at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown, a role that earned him an Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In reaction to the news of Williams’ death, fans in Boston took to honoring the bench in Boston Common on which he and fellow-actor Matt Damon sat during a famous “Good Will Hunting” scene; fans also wrote messages with chalk on the walkway near the bench on Tuesday, according to Boston.com and Buzzfeed.
