Sox Pitcher's Potentially Serious Injury Is A Head-Shaker

Carson Smith has been placed on the disabled list for what could generously be described as an avoidable injury.

Red Sox reliever Carson Smith is headed to the 10-day disabled list with a potentially serious injury, according to President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski. But the reason, according to Dombrowski, is causing a collective sigh across Red Sox nation.

Smith subluxed his shoulder when he grew frustrated and threw his glove after coming out of Monday's game in Toronto, Dombrowski told The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey.

The oft-injured Smith has pitched in less than 24 innings since begin acquired after the 2015 season. There is no timetable for his return.

The injury comes after left-hander David Price needed to be sent to Boston for tests after feeling numbness in his hand. The team termed it a mild case of carpal tunnel, and rumors swirled that Price's condition was brought on by excessive video game playing.
