Ramirez's three-run home with two outs in the ninth off Dellin Betances capped a five-run inning and gave Boston perhaps its signature win of the season.

Boston extended its AL East lead to two games. Baltimore, which lost, and Toronto, which won, are tied for the top wild card spot.

Betances was wild from the start. He entered the game with one out in the ninth and Chris Young on first base. Dustin Pedroia walked and Xander Bogaerts reached when Chris Young was caught in a rundown. Down to their last out, the Red Sox got a looping liner into right-center from David Ortiz, a grounder into left from Mookie Betts, and Ramire'z no-doubter on a 3-1 fastball.

Joe Kelly earned the win by escaping his own jam in the top of the inning. Starter Eduardo Rodriguez was ineffective early and didn't last long.
