Sox Without 5 Regulars to Start Detroit Series

The Red Sox will be without five regulars as they begin a four-game series Friday in Detroit.

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts and righthander Matt Barnes are on the bereavement list, while lefthander Robbie Ross, slugger Hanley Ramirez, and outfielder Mookie Betts are out with the flu that has been making its way through the clubhouse.

Infielders Marco Hernandez and Deven Marrero and righthander Noe Ramirez will replace them on the major league roster.

Here's a look at the pitching matchups for the four-game set. All games are on NESN, WEEI-FM, and set for a 1:10 p.m. first pitch.

Friday - RHP Steven Wright vs. RHP Michael Fulmer | Wright is coming off an All-Star appearance, despite throwing the league's second-slowest fastball.

Saturday - LHP Eduardo Rodriguez vs. RHP Jordan Zimmermann | Rodriguez was slated to start Thursday's rainout.

Sunday - RHP Rick Porcello vs. LHP Daniel Norris | The only other team Porcello ever knew was his Tigers.

Monday - LHP Chris Sale vs. RHP Justin Verlander | Sale dazzled in his Red Sox debut and is familiar with the Tigers from his White Sox days.
