Bill Belichick Sports University Of Houston Hat At Post Game Presser

FOXBOROUGH, MA — The impact of Hurricane Harvey has no limit, reaching members of the Houston community near and far, and inside the New England Patriots locker room.

Following Thursday night’s game against the New York Giants, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick came out to his post game press conference wearing a University of Houston hat - a small show of solidarity for a region that has experienced a week of hell.

"I want to give a little shout out to Houston. We had a great experience down there in February, a lot of great relationships with the Texans and the University [of Houston] down there. We've got some players with some family down there, so we just want to let them know we're thinking about them," Belichick said.

As most Patriots fans know, Houston has special meaning for the team. The home of the Texans played host to a pair of Super Bowl victories for New England. In 2004, the team beat the Carolina Panthers for their second championship and earlier this year, the Patriots came back from a 28-3 deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons for their fifth title.

During practice this week, linebacker Elandon Roberts, who went to the University of Houston, said everyone is coming together to support each other during this difficult time.

"It’s crazy, a couple of weeks ago we were just in Houston driving down the same streets that are underwater now. We can’t do much about it but help all we can," Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola said earlier this week.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft has promised to match $1 million in matching donations to the Red Cross.
