The New England Revolution were in action Saturday Night at Gillette Stadium against the Los Angeles Galaxy. It was an entertaining match, but once again the Revs were not able to capitalize on their scoring chances. On the other side, it took just one great cross from the Galaxy’s David Beckham, to set up the header and the winning goal by Miguel Lopez. The Revs once again come up short in their 1-0 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Revolution started strong in the beginning of the match. In the 2nd minute, Benny Feilhaber sent a great pass to the streaking Zak Boggs. Unfortunately his shot went over the net. The Revs would continue to put pressure on a very strong Galaxy defense in the opening minutes. However, they would continue to struggle in the final third, and were not able to capitalize on their positive play.
As the half continued, the Galaxy started to gain more control of the match. Landon Donovan had a great chance to score in the first half. In the 42nd minute, his header just goes wide of the net.

In the 69th minute, Beckham whipped a great cross into the box. Miguel Lopez was able to glance a header past Revs goalkeeper Matt Reis. With less than 20 minutes left the Revs were trailing 1-0.
Lopez almost doubled the lead several minutes later for the Galaxy. In the 76th minute, he had a great shot on net that Reis just got a hand to, and made the key save. The Revs dodged a bullet there, and kept the game fairly close. The Revs would start to turn the pressure on the Galaxy shortly afterwards.
Feilhaber would have a couple of shot on net in the 80th and 86th minute of this match. However, both of these attempts were easily handled by Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.
The best chances of the match for the Revs to score came early in stoppage time. The Revs had a total of 3 shots in the same sequence. Zack Schilawski started with a great shot on net that was saved by Galaxy defender A.J. DeLaGarza. Then, the ball got back to Sainey Nayassi, who sent it back to Schilawski. His shot hit the crossbar. Finally, Shalrie Joseph tried to head the ball into the net, but Donovan kicked the ball away before going over the line. It was amazing that the Revs were not able to score during this barrage of shots. The match ended a few minutes later with Revs losing 1-0.
Unfortunately, like other matches this season, the play in the final third let the Revs down. They had their chances to score, but just could not convert. If they want to have a successful season, they will need to fix this scoring problem.
To make matters worse, the Revs might might have some bad news. Feilhaber apparently got injured late in the match, and had to be helped off the field. It appeared to be his ankle. At this time their is no update on his injury.
The Revs will hope to rebound in their next match They will next be in action on June 4th, where they will be on the road to face FC Dallas.
