Revs Come Up Short In 2-1 Loss To The Earthquakes
The Revolution were on the road late Saturday Night to face the San Jose Earthquakes. Read how they would come up short in a 2-1 loss.
The New England Revolution were on the road Saturday Night playing the San Jose Earthquakes. They were looking for their first league road victory of the season. Unfortunately, they would leave California on the losing end in this match. San Jose scored two second half goals to give them a commanding lead. A late charge by the Revs including a goal would make this game close. In the end the Revs come up short in a 2-1 loss to the Earthquakes.
The Revs definitely came out attacking with intentions to get all 3 points in this match. In the 25th minute they would have their first real opportunity of the game to score. Benny Feilhaber sent a great pass to Shalrie Joseph. He would test San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch with a rocket shot from 30 yards away that was nicely saved.
In the 37th minute, Chris Tierney made a run inside of the San Jose box, and appeared to be bumped down by an Earthquake defender. However, the referee did not call a penalty and play continued.

The first half saw some real good possession for the Revs, but they could not breakthrough with a goal. The first half ended 0-0.
The Revs in the second half came out once again attacking, and looking for that elusive road victory. They would have a decent opportunity to score in the 56th minute. Feilhaber linked up with Joseph, who sent a nice pass to Rajko Lekic inside of the box on the right side. His shot on net was saved by Busch.

Unfortunately for the Revs, the last 20 minutes of the match they would see San Jose take the game away from them. In the 71st minute, Chris Wondolowski sent a great cross into the box that was headed into the net by Ellis McLoughlin. San Jose were up 1-0.
The Earthquakes would double their lead in the 84th minute on a free kick. Bobby Convey scored on a wonderful curling shot from just outside of the box on the right side. The Eartquakes late in the match were up 2-0.
To the Revs credit they did not give up, and pressed forward to get back into the match. In the 86th minute, they would cut the lead in half. Chris Tierney took a free kick from just outside of the box. His bending shot bounces past Busch to put the Revs on the scoreboard. The score was then 2-1.
The Revs would continued to put pressure on San Jose with a few opportunities to get even very late in the match. In stoppage time, the Revs had a corner kick that was taken by Tierney. As the ball went into the box, Darrius Barnes had a header that landed at the feet of Feilhaber. His shot would be blocked by a defender. This would lead to another corner kick. Feilhaber took it and unfortunately it sailed wide.
The game surprisingly ended right after the kick, as their were supposed to be a minimum of 3 minutes of stoppage time. The match ended at 2:12 into extra time. San Jose held on for the 2-1 victory.
The Revs could look back at this match as a lost opportunity on the road once again. It was nice to see them fight hard from behind, but it was too little too late.
The Revs will next be in action on Wednesday when the will be playing in the U.S. Open Cup play in match. They will be on the road to face Sporting Kansas City.
