Revs vs. FC Toronto: Match Preview

The Revs are home Wednesday Night to face Toronto FC. Read which team I am predicting to win this match.

The Revs are coming off of a 2-1 away loss to the New York Red Bulls last Friday Night. They will be home Wednesday Night to face FC Toronto at Gillette Stadium. The match takes place at 8:o0 PM EST. The game will be shown on Comcast Sports Net New England, and also can be heard on 98.5 The Sports Hub HD 2.

The Revolution (3-7-4, 13 points), in their last match got beat 2-1 to the New York Red Bulls.  Thierry Henry got a goal early in the second half to give the Red Bulls a commanding 2-0 lead. Zak Boggs, in the 54th minute cut the lead in half, and gave the Revs a chance. New England made a tremendous effort to get something from this match. In the end, they were not able to get the equalizer, and lost 2-1 to New York. They will be looking to bounce back at home against FC Toronto.

FC Toronto (2-5-8, 14 points), come into this match off of a 2-2 draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy on the road at the Home Depot Center last Saturday. The Galaxy took the lead very early in stoppage time from a goal by Juan Pablo Angel. However, dramatically Alan Gordon scored the equalizer very late in the match to salvage a point for FC Toronto. The visitors will be looking for all 3 points against the Revs.

Key players to watch in this match-up for the Revs are Shalrie Joseph and Ousmane Dabo. These two players in the midfield could be the keys to controlling the match, and getting the ball up front to the strikers. Joseph has the ability with his passing to control the match by himself. His quality play is vital against Toronto FC. Dabo, when he has been healthy to play has been very effective in central midfield. The Revs need him to really set up the offense for the club.

Key players to watch for Toronto FC are forwards Alan Gordon and Maicon Santos. These two strikers are quality scorers, and the Revs defenders will need to be aware of them. Gordon has scored 4 goals this season, and can be a hard player to contain. Santos is another player the Revs need to keep an eye on. He is the leading scorer so far for Toronto FC with 5 goals. A.J. Soares and Ryan Cochrane will have the job of shutting these scorers down for the Revs.

I see this match as a wonderful opportunity to for the Revs. Toronto FC are coming off flying to the west coast over the weekend to play the Galaxy. They now have to fly to New England in mid week. They could have tired legs coming into this game.

This is a must win for the Revs playing a club that is right in front of them in the conference. I am expecting them to play like a desperate club, and come out pushing forward from the very beginning of the match.

I am encouraged by their offensive play in the second half against the Red Bulls. That is one of the main reasons I see them breaking out with more than a few goals in this match-up. I am predicting a 3-1 victory for the Revs against Toronto FC.
