Welcome to Old Colony Habitat for Humanity
This is a very personal blog for me, as I really love Habitat for Humanity and want to spread the word about its mission. I'd also like to dispel some prevailing myths about how Habitat works.
There are hundreds of Habitat affiliates across the world, and although we all adhere to the basic format and policies, each certainly does things a little differently depending on location. I can really only speak for my own affiliate, Old Colony Habitat for Humanity, which comprises 12 towns in southeastern Massachusetts (along the Rhode Island border) -- and yes, that includes Foxborough!
So far we've built homes in Attleboro, Norton, Norfolk and Plainville. We are exploring ways to help famlies in our other towns, so we're trying to spread the word about our activities.

Our current home in Norton, which is our first with a welcoming front porch, is about halfway done. (If you're in the area, please drop by and see it on Hawthorne Road.) We're usually there with our wonderful volunteers each Saturday, although we're taking a hiatus for three weeks for the utilities to get their hookups and such finished, and sometimes even during the week with volunteers from companies that sponsor a private company build day.
We have pictures and more information on our Web site -- www.oldcolonyhabitat.org -- so feel free to browse that as well.

In the coming weeks and months, I'll update you on our works in progress, answer questions, and show you why Habitat is such a great organization to be a part of in any way. Meanwhile, if you have any questions, please drop me a note, OK? I'd love to hear from you!
Have a wonderful week,
Susan
