Erik Reece is the author of Lost Mountain: A Year in the Vanishing Wilderness and An American Gospel: On Family, History, and The Kingdom of God. He is the recipient of Columbia University’s John B. Oakes Award for environmental journalism, and he teaches at the University of Kentucky.

Deborah Meier is a senior scholar at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education, a director and advisor for Forum for Education and Democracy, and a board member of The Coalition of Essential Schools. She is the author of Many Children Left Behind, and many other works which can be viewed at her site.
John Taylor Gatto was once named New York Teacher of the Year and is well known for his critiques of the U.S. school system. His books include Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling and most recently Weapons of Mass Instruction: A Schoolteacher's Journey Through the Dark World of Compulsory Schooling.
