Family of Danny Nickerson Has a New Member

FOXBOROUGH, MA — About a year after the one of the worst tragedies struck a Foxborough family, there is new joy for Carley Nickerson and her family.

Friday morning, the mother of the late Danny Nickerson announced the birth of Elena Daniel. Nickerson went into labor Thursday and gave birth early Friday morning.

Carley's son, Danny, died in 2015 from a brain tumor known Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Giloma (DIPG). He became known worldwide in 2014 when a request for birthday cards went viral.

"I never knew this much happiness and love could ever exist in our lives again until I met her. She immediately filled our hearts with love and happiness again. There will always be an enormous missing piece, but she certainly lessened the sting. Her giant blue eyes, her brothers' facial features and content personality were exactly what we needed," Carley wrote on Facebook.
