Fifth Annual POW*MIA Remembrance Day is Sept. 19

Members of the community are invited to Foxborough Common to remember veterans who were held prisoner and are still missing.

The Foxborough Veterans Services Department and the town’s Veterans Services Advisory Committee (VSAC) will be holding the fifth Annual POW*MIA Remembrance Day on Saturday on the Foxboro Common.

Saturday, Sept. 19 will be a day of remembrance on Foxboro Common for military prisoners of war and military servicemen and women missing in action.

The town’s fifth annual POW*MIA Remembrance Day is organized by the Foxborough Veterans Services Department and the town’s Veterans Services Advisory Committee (VSAC). Below is a preliminary program for the event:

  • Ceremony begins at 4 p.m.
  • Circling of Common - 1 Rolling Thunder and Legion Riders
  • Call to Order - Master of Ceremonies Joseph Lally, Vietnam Veteran
  • Pastor Ed Cardoza of Saint Mark’s Church has been asked to give the Invocation
  • The Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Veteran’s Service Advisory Committee Chairman John Connolly
  • The National Anthem
  • Introduction of Dignitaries will include State Senator James Timilty, State Representative Jay Barrows, and members of the Foxborough Board of Selectmen. Selectmen Chairman Jim DeVellis will give opening remarks
  • Pastor Derek White of Bethany Church will lead a POW*MIA remembrance prayer
  • Dorothy Kelly and Nancy Paquin, sisters of a Korean War MIA will speak.
  • Linda McCoy, secretary of the veteran’s service advisory committee will read the narrative of the Missing Man Table
  • David McGraw, president of the Post 106 American Legion Riders will present the POW*MIA Flag
  • Pastor Derek White of Bethany Church will give the benediction.
  • Michael Johns, the town’s veterans’ service officer will give the closing remarks.

Prior to the ceremony, a 24-hour vigil will take place at the common. Those interested in participating should contact Veterans’ Services Officer Michael Johns at mjohns@foxboroughma.gov.
