Former Patriots QB Returns As Backup
Sources tell Adam Schefter of ESPN that quarterback Brian Hoyer has signed a three-year deal with the team.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Meet the new Patriots backup quarterback, same as the old Patriots backup quarterback. The Patriots announced Wednesday afternoon that they have signed quarterback Brian Hoyer, who will now assume the role of Tom Brady's backup. Field Yates of ESPN originally reported earlier in the day that Hoyer was visiting Foxborough, with Adam Schefter reporting that the deal is for three years. Hoyer returns to New England after being released by the San Francisco 49ers following a disastrous 0-8 start.
Hoyer spent his first three seasons in Foxborough before becoming a journeyman of sorts. In the following six seasons, he has played for six different teams.
The move completes Monday night's explosive trade that sent Jimmy Garapollo to Hoyer's former team for a second round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Hoyer was released shortly after news broke of the deal.
