Foxborough Public Drunkenness Bylaw Won't Be Appealed [POLL]

Foxborough's Board of Selectmen voted 4 to 1 to not appeal the bylaw.

Foxborough's Board of Selectmen voted 4 to 1 to not appeal attorney general Martha Coakley's rejection of the town's public drunkenness bylaw. The bylaw would have established fines for public drunkenness. 

Board member Lorraine Brue was the only selectman to oppose the decision.

Coakley in early October outlining in a letter the conflict between the proposed by-law and a 1971 state law decriminalizing public drunkenness.

Cost was a major factor for selectmen when determining the decision. According to Foxborough officials, initial costs of the appeal would have been around $11,000 and that their chance for a successful outcome was minimal.

Town manager Kevin Paicos is working with officials at Gillette Stadium on revamping security measures to aid in bringing down the number of issues with intoxicated visitors.
