We asked Patch readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:
- "Central Street and 140 hands down. This may sound stupid but some days I have full on anxiety pulling out on 140!"
- "Route 140 and Cross Street! Cars and trucks zooming down the hill while an elementary school bus tries to make left turns onto Cross, which isn't big enough to fit a car and bus because of trees and boulders."
- "Commercial and central street intersection. Maybe if there's enough comments about this dangerous intersection on this post, it can be presented to the town committee and something could be done?"
- "Oak Street, speeding, lack of crosswalks, bike lanes that were planned but mysteriously disappeared when striping, cars passing on incorrect side of road"
- "Drunk drivers leaving Patriots Place and driving erratically down Route 1 in both directions."
- "140 and lack of sidewalks in a lot of main roads around town"
- "Hands down, the biggest safety issue is people driving while on their phones! Then I agree with most that 140 is super dangerous."
- "Lights on 140 especially near Walnut Street. Plus more sidewalks around parts of town, like the end of South St. and Green/Cedar St."
- "Central and Walnut at 140. There needs to be a light at some point on that stretch to break up the traffic flow and allow for gaps."
- "East Street on the Mansfield Line by Windsor Drive. No sidewalks and speeding. Son almost got hit crossing for the bus!"
