Foxborough Soccer Earn Strong Results in Gillette Stadium Showdown With Mansfield

The girls earned a 2-2 draw after a late comeback while the boys beat Mansfield 4-1


It was not the typical home field for the Foxborough Warriors soccer teams but there was an advantage for the boys and girls team on the Gillette Stadium pitch.

Playing the Mansfield Hornets at the home of the Patriots and the Revolution, a late comeback by the Foxborough girls resulted in a 2-2 draw and a strong opening 20 minutes by the Warriors meant 4-1 win over the Hornets in the boys game.

After a scoreless draw though the first half in the girls’ game, Hannah Reiter capitalized on a Mansfield corner in the 52nd minute of play to make it 1-0 for the Hornets.

Only six minutes later, Jen Kemp converted on an Abby Broyles cross to put Mansfield up two.

Foxborough would come roaring back in the 69th minute of play, cutting the lead in half on a Lily Sykes goal with Kristin Bortolotti earning the equalizer in the 75th minute of play.

The Warriors remain at the top of the Davenport Division standings with a record of 5-1-1 with the draw and Mansfield is now 4-2-2.

The boys’ game saw a Foxborough Warriors side attack from the start, overwhelming the Mansfield defense early on.

Scoring the first of three goals in a 20-minute span, Joey Morrison found the back of the net a little over eight minutes into the game to put Foxborough up 1-0.

Devante Teixeira bagged a brace for the Warriors, scoring in the 10th and 20th minutes for Foxborough.

Mansfield cut into the lead with a wide angle shot from Jake Alexander in the 30th minute but Foxborough was able to maintain the advantage though the second half.

Riley Fleck’s 79th minute goal capped off the victory for the Warriors.

Foxborough remains in the hunt for the Davenport Division title, improving to 6-2 while Mansfield is now 1-5-2.
