Hoyer Makes Gillette Stadium Cheer, Garoppolo Nails the Hurry Up Offense, and Other Plays You Should See from Patriots-Bears
The Patriots were back on the field Thursday night for a preseason showdown against the Chicago Bears.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — A slow first quarter only made way for a second quarter turnaround as Jimmy Garoppolo filled in for Tom Brady, Brian Hoyer made Patriots fans cheer, and the Patriots picked up their second win of the preseason with a 23-22 win over the Chicago Bears.
Fans expecting Brady were surprised to find out that he didn't play the game after reportedly cutting the thumb on his throwing hand with scissors while working on his cleats. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick gave little insight after the game, simply saying that he made the decision to start Garoppolo.
Things started out flat for New England, with the Bears scoring 11 points in the first quarter on a Robby Gould field goal and five-yard touchdown run by Jeremy Langford. That would change in the second quarter when the Patriots scored 17 unanswered points to take the lead into halftime.

After getting on the board with a Stephen Gostkowski field goal from 21 yards out, the Patriots only needed a play to get back on offense. On his first play of the game, former Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer, who was coming in for Jay Cutler, made his former home stadium cheer after throwing an interception form the Bears’ 25 yard line to Cyrus Jones, who was tacked at the Bears’ 15.

A Gostkowski field goal after the break was the fourth consecutive New England drive to end in a score. The team went on a 23-o run before the Bears ended the game with a field goal and touchdown plus two-point conversion at the end of the fourth quarter.
Garoppolo went 16-21 passing with 181 yards and a touchdown during one half of action.
The Patriots head to Carolina next Friday for their first road preseason game.
