Josh McDaniels Staying With Patriots: Report

Josh McDaniels is back with the Patriots only hours after it was announced that he accepted the Indianapolis Colts head coach position.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Meet the new offensive coordinator. Same as the old offensive coordinator. Josh McDaniels is back with the Patriots only hours after it was announced that he accepted the Indianapolis Colts head coach position, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

An improved contract situation helped the team retain McDaniels after it was largely expected that he was gone. A source told Mike Reiss of ESPN that clarity on Bill Belichick's status and family stability played into the decision.

McDaniels came to New England in 2001 as a personnel assistant and rose to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach by 2006. He left in 2009 to be the head coach of the Denver Broncos and returned to his old position in 2012.
